When people are facing the prospect of criminal charges -- even if they did not commit the crimes of which they are suspected -- they may panic, reacting in a way that further complicates their legal situation. Unfortunately, police in Missouri claim a man escaped custody following his initial arrest. The man now faces multiple felony charges.
The incident that led to the man's arrest happened on a day in May. According to reports, local police officers received a call from a pharmacy, apparently indicating that a man was attempting to fill a prescription that was believed to be fraudulent. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the man in the lobby and took him into custody.
However, police say that as they were walking out of the building with the man in handcuffs, he ran from them. He was ultimately taken into custody in a parking lot in the area. Police say they contacted a doctor -- located in another state -- whose signature was on the prescription; the doctor reportedly claimed that he did not write the prescription even though it contained his signature.
The man now faces multiple felony charges as a result of the incident, including forgery, fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance and escape as a result of the Missouri incident. The day after his arrest, he was being held on a $225,000 cash bond. A conviction of the charges against him could carry significant consequences. Because many people are unfamiliar with the criminal justice system, he may choose to consult with a professional who has experience with the process.
