Search warrant leads to felony drug charges in Missouri

Most people in Missouri likely feel safe in the privacy of their own homes or other property. Because the Constitution protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures, there must be a good reason for a search of a home by law enforcement officers to occur. Despite this, it is unclear what sparked a search that ultimately resulted in felony drug charges.

The search reportedly happened on a day in early November. Both the local sheriff's office as well as officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol participated in the search. It is unclear what led law enforcement officials to seek a search warrant.

Reports claim that a substance suspected to be methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia were seized as part of the search. One of the two people at the location, a 34-year-old man, reportedly had an outstanding warrant against him. Another person, a 36-year-old man, was also taken into custody.

One of the men is facing a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance, and the other was later released after bonding on the outstanding warrant. Despite the claims of police officers, there are many questions about the case that remain unanswered. As in all criminal cases, those accused of a crime are presumed to be innocent unless law enforcement officials are able to provide sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Unfortunately, when people in Missouri are facing felony drug charges, they are often unsure of their options. Many feel unprepared to make the decisions that are facing them without professional guidance, often prompting them to turn to attorneys with experience with criminal defense for help.
