It is somewhat amazing to think that the only thing that protects drivers from oncoming traffic on some Missouri roads is relatively thin lines of paint. Any driver can accidentally cross over that line into oncoming traffic for a variety of different reasons. Unfortunately, police claim that alcohol was a factor in a recent motor vehicle accident that resulted in a DWI charge.
The incident that led to the arrest happened just after 7 p.m. on day in late January. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, a 72-year-old man was driving when his vehicle crossed over the dividing line into oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, he reportedly struck a vehicle.
Reports indicate that his vehicle struck a pickup truck driven by a 30-year-old man. Though the older driver is said to have suffered minor injuries, it is unclear if the younger driver was injured. The former was arrested at the scene, charged with DWI, no insurance and failure to maintain right half of road resulting in an accident. Both drivers were reportedly wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision; their vehicles were totaled.
