Car accidents can happen for a variety of different reasons. While sometimes it is a simple oversight or the result of poor judgment, police officers in Missouri and across the country may be quick to assume that alcohol was involved, especially if the driver involved is young and has a previous arrest on his or her record. Unfortunately, a young man was recently accused of drunk driving after a car accident.
The 20-year-old man was indicted for the accident that reportedly happened on a day in late January. Police say they were called to the scene during the early morning hours. When they arrived, they reportedly discovered a car lying on its side.
Reports claim that the driver attempted a "180-degree turn in the middle" of the road, causing it to overturn. A 16-year-old female was discovered nearby, gasping for air, reporting that she was unable to feel her legs. She was transported to the hospital where she was diagnosed with severe hip and neck injuries. Police say that three of the vehicle's occupants fled the scene before police could arrive; no other injuries were reported.
The driver was recently indicted and released after posting bond. Because he previously pleaded guilty to burglary charges in 2017, he is labeled as a "persistent offender." Unfortunately, the young Missouri man must now respond to the drunk driving allegations he faces. He may choose to seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney to ensure that he fully understands all of the options available to him as well as their potential consequences.
