When a person's spouse dies, he or she is often left to cope with the devastating news. When the surviving spouse is accused of playing a role in the death, the emotions can easily be overwhelming, potentially inhibiting a person's ability to make rational decisions. Unfortunately, a man in Missouri may now be in this position after he was charged with DUI and other crimes following his wife's death.
The incident that led to the man's arrest reportedly happened on a night in early May. The couple had apparently been out drinking before being dropped off at their home. Police believe that the woman laid down in the driveway while her 36-year-old husband went inside the home. When her husband could not find her, he reportedly became concerned and decided to look for her in his pickup truck; police say that he was intoxicated at the time.
Police claim that although the man missed hitting the woman as he exited the driveway in his truck, he ran over her upon his return. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the woman unconscious in her driveway. She was transported to the hospital but passed away.
In addition to felony aggravated DUI, her husband is also charged with reckless homicide. Reports indicate that more charges could be filed once lab tests are completed. Even under better circumstances, it is often difficult to fully understand what one's legal options are, but this Missouri man is also coping with the loss of his wife. Fortunately, a professional with experience with such cases can help guide him throughout the process.
